We are Human Beings not Human Doings

Being a Human Being

Being a Human Being

I am really writing this post for myself and I know I’m not alone in our chronic desire to fill every minute with doing. Doing can be quite satisfying because we feel good about what we are accomplishing and our accomplishments can contribute to our feelings of increased self esteem. I know I love the feeling of crossing things off my to do list. However it is worth checking in from time to time to see what lies behind our doings. Are we motivated out of fear or out of a pure place of joy? I find when I have to fill every possible moment with what I deem as productive behavior that is a sure way to burn out.

It is important to pay attention to chronic busyness. Are you afraid that if you stop, smell the roses and just rest a bit that your life may fall apart? I know there have been times in my life that I felt I had to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders. Of course this was self imposed. The more I felt I had to do the less my life would work.

Given we are human beings not human doings what if we give being a chance in our lives? I have heard the phrase that to relax is to know God. When we stop and truly relax we become more in touch with ourselves. We start to truly tune in and turn inward. I have proved it over and over in my life that when I take time to mediate each day, I am happier and my life has more grace. I reach my goals with ease often faster and certainly with less stress.

When it comes to our health is comes as no surprise that stress is one of the biggest contributors to disease. When we are stressed our bodies produce a whole host of chemicals that can damage our immune response and our ability to heal and stay healthy. Sometimes it is the seemingly small things that we do on a daily basis that can have the greatest impact on our well being.

A great piece of advice I read recently that whenever we experience stress in our lives to simply stop for a moment and take three deep breaths. Immediately we are transported to the present moment. Being aware of our bodies and breathing slowly and deeply allow us to take our attention off the pass and the future. We get more oxygen into our blood streams and we feel better. Something as simple as our breath can have a profound impact on our lives.

Meditation can be intimidating for some people and often we feel we need to know some advance techniques to be successful at meditation. Again it is about taking it easy and being in the moment. Just following your breath during a 15 minute meditation is all it takes to change your whole outlook on life. Listening to soothing music can be extremely helpful as well. There are numerous audio CD’s for meditation find one that resonates with you.

I have a favorite CD called “The Silent Language of Peace” and you can order on A Space Of Love website. This is one of the most powerful audio meditation CD’s I have ever used. Use it once or twice a day and watch your life transform.

Again, spend time being each day. Just like any new habit you’ll have to practice for it to become a natural part of your day. 30 days to a more blissful self. Let’s all take 15 minutes twice a day to be and watch and experience the far reaching effects of the joy of being.
